Eliza here with a little story about how we’re engaging our community and taking small steps to make the world a better place. A long time ago, our winemaker, Melanie, joined an organization that consisted of a lot of really badass female business leaders. That group was the Soroptimist International of Boise, an organization of women who volunteer their time to help other women in the area through programs that lead to social and economic empowerment (check them out). It was at the SI’s annual Christmas party where Melanie was introduced to the Moseley Center Boys & Girls Club here in Garden City. It has now been a decade since the Boys & Girls Club first tugged at Joe and Mel’s heartstrings (well before the winery elves, Charli & Rowen, were born), and for the last 10 years, they’ve found many different ways to help continue the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club here in our beloved Garden City.
As part of the Cinder Family I feel fortunate to work for people who have such generous hearts like Joe and Melanie— I mean, they provide us some nice perks for working here (like a glass of wine/beer at the end of the day) , and they almost never judge me when I pour myself a glass of “brunch rose” in the morning (just kidding, Mom). But the true reason why we’re able to give anything to the Boys & Girls Club in the first place is because of you, our wonderful Wine Club members and customers! Maybe you didn’t know this but over the years, you have helped us raise thousands of dollars to help support the children in our community. There are many ways to help a good cause, but we think that drinking wine is the funnest! Here are some of the ways that you have helped us raise money in the past, and all of the ways that you can continue to help us raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of ADA County in 2019:
•Buy 6 bottles of wine (or ask for a 6 bottle carrier)— You might not think that you need 6 bottles of wine, but let’s be real, you and I both know that you’ll drink all 6 bottles of wine. When you do purchase 6 bottles, we get to give you one of our really cool 6-bottle carrying boxes. Not only will you look extremely fashionable while walking around with one of these bad boys, you’ll also be contributing to a good cause! Every time you bring one of those boxes back into the winery, we donate $1 to the Boys & Girls Club.
•Come to Barrel Tasting (the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving)— Joe has a reputation in the winery for giving out a bit of wine every now and then, but during Barrel Tasting, it’s a “go big or go home” kind of attitude. On both days of Barrel Tasting, we raffle off some of our magnum bottles, and all of the sales raised from those raffle tickets go directly to the Boys & Girls Club. Winning the bottle is always fun, but if you don’t, just know that we have a glass of wine with your name on it to help ease the pain of losing.
•Participate in our Annual Toy Drive! Bring a toy, get free wine— In December of 2018 we held a toy drive with the Washington State Alumni Association of Southern Idaho (Go Cougs, baby!) where we gave a free glass of wine to anybody who brought an unwrapped toy into the winery for the kids at the Boys & Girls Club. We have plans to do this again, in hopes that we can give out even more free wine and get more toys to the kids.
By drinking our super delicious wine and attending these super fun events, you’ve helped support healthy lifestyles, academic successes, good characters, and leadership skills for the youth in our community. With your help, we were able to donate over $1,500 and 200+ toys to the Boys & Girls Club in 2018, and we think that we’ll be able to donate much more in the years to come.
Drinking wine should always feels good, but it feels even better when you do it for a good cause. Cheers!
