Basque Soccer Tempranillo

This special label Tempranillo commemorates this game with a bottle of Tempranillo (Spain’s nobel grape) that will please the senses and remind us all of the wonderful event that celebrated soccer and Basque culture here in Boise!
Tempranillo has found a perfect second home in the hot, dry vineyards of the Snake River Valley. Our version of this Spanish classic is a bold, spicy and earthy wine. Pick up a few bottles of this limited edition wine…a portion of the proceeds goes to support the Basque Cultural Studies program at Boise State University!
The 2013 vintage was great from the winemaking perspective for both red and white wines. The rapid accumulation of heat during the summer insured that the grapes matured fully. A cooling trend during the fall gave the grapes time to develop additional flavors and allowed the winemakers to precisely time the picking dates for optimal style expression. The 2013 vintage showed patterns similar to long-term averages with bud-break around the 20th of April, gradual warming in May and June, hot weather (averages in the mid 90’s) in July and August, and then cool temperatures starting in mid-September. Total heat accumulation of 3030 heat units.
Subtle sweet and savory notes mingle in the aromas with cherry and vanilla spiced with black pepper. In the mouth, the wine is supple and it finishes with lively acid and tannins.
Hand harvested. Fermented in 1 ton bins with 4 punch-downs per day. 10% of batches native yeast fermentation. Bladder pressed after an average 7 days of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation in barrel. 21 months of barrel aging in 2nd and 3rd use barrels of French and American origin. Bottled unfiltered in June.
